Would you . . .
leave your sleeping children home alone at night and sneak over to a neighbor's house for a few cocktails? I recently learned that new friends of mine, who honestly I had thought were a bit uptight and old-fashioned, actually are quite the free spirits. Apparently, they tuck their three children, ages ranging from 3 to 8, into bed at night, and then slip a few doors down to drink with their neighbors, leaving their sleeping children unattended for up to an hour. What do you think about this? Is it no big deal, something that you have done or would do, or are you horrified and wondering if anyone has called child protective services?! Talk amongst yourselves . . . .

Um, horrified!!! What if one of them has a bad dream, throws up, wets the bed? What if someone knows this is the parents' pattern and enters the house when they leave? What if the stove is left on and a fire starts? Kids can be deep sleepers that may not wake up to help each other or hear an alarm. I would not do this with my kids at this age. Eight years old is not old enough to be babysitting . . . especially IN THEIR SLEEP!
ReplyDeleteMaybe, but ONLY if I had a baby monitor that would reach that far and I told my kids where I was going and left them a phone number.
ReplyDeleteNope - never.
